![]() ![]() EGS does not operate like either of those examples. If you go with the GamePass and PS+ example, I understand that they are run as a subscription service and that is easy to cancel and you can typically buy the game regardless. This isn't like an exclusivity deal between PS5 and Xbox, because in that case there are actually different devices so I understand why that's a thing. Spending tons of money on exclusivity deals for games that would have otherwise been released on Steam. A worse platform and service by a company I can't trust. ![]() There are also other options available, including DRM free ones like GOG, that helps prevent Valve from going back on all this.ĮGS simply has nothing to offer me. They have committed to contingency plans of unlocking their DRM if the service ever became unavailable. As long as Valve has Gabe's influence and is privately owned, I have no concerns about Steam. They could certainly turn the screws and squeeze people, but it's been over 20 years and they have not done so. I am not saying Valve is perfect, but Gabe has been a benevolent dictator and so have the like-minded people who are employed at the company. EGS is just throwing money at the problem without actually providing a better platform, and they've proven what kind of behavior they would exhibit if they did become the dominant platform. Then offer best in class service to entice people to want to be on your platform, instead of just using it for the exclusives. ![]() Make excellent first party games exclusive to your platform, so people buy in to play them. I know what some would say next: "Well if nobody would use them how else can they build a userbase to compete with a giant like Steam!?" The same way Valve did it. Prior to that coming to light, I would have certainly considered if their offering was superior to Steam in any way. Because of the way they've ran the business, absolutely not.
